Voodoo Lounge

We get some pretty interesting characters who return to Corolla every summer. There's section O lady, who brings the lifeguards breakfast and lunch every day to the stand, there is Stew the kiwi at ocean hil, whose kids have been more places in the world than I have even though they are only 8 and 10, and then... There's the Voodoo lounge.

For two weeks every summer for the past 10 years, sitting at Herring street stand becomes a coveted privilege. Why? Because it is the location of the exclusive, incredibly awesome Voodoo lounge- a massive tiki bar fortress complete with a gas grill, 3 kegs a day, daily themed beach parties, and a group of guys from virginia and California that are the craziest bunch of characters to hit Corolla's beaches.

There's Garrett, the almost professional snowboarder who broke his back before heading to the x-games, but now owns his own tee-shirt business, there's Keenan, the aspiring fashionisto/national geographic photographer/surfer, and then there is Travis- the ring leader of the Herring boys- who, from what rumor has it, body guards for Kanye and Jay-Z, owns his own construction company, and is going to Virginia tech majoring in "professional helping". And they are all under the age of 23.

They start every morning with an intense workout of pushing a car for 2 miles, and then revive themselves with a stiff morning drink by 9 am. At noon, the feasting begins as they fire up the grill and produce copious amounts of burgers, dogs, and jerked chicken. The keg beers are flowing and every day, Travis brings out a bullhorn so he can drunkenly summon the beach babe passerbys into the voodoo lounge. And he's usually pretty successful; even when Travis is dressed in a Santa suit asking young ladies over the bullhorn if they want to come sit on Santas lap, the girls will come.

Aside from watching their antics all day and being entertained, the boys and their families are always hooking us up with good food, drink, and humor. At night during the off duty hours, we head over to the lounge for keg tosses, corn hole, and music. And this is what happens,, every single day, for two weeks. And tonight is their last night, so we will be providing the beverages. Well miss you, voodoo boys!
